HighWire Press, a leading provider of publishing products and services, has redesigned the American Journal of Neuroradiology’s website, adding new features and functionalities to enhance the user experience.
The American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR) recently signed a five-year contract extension with HighWire Press. Following this renewal, HighWire Press supported AJNR‘s transition to an online-only model, with the revamped website launching on January 8, 2025.
AJNR aimed to create a platform that offers a personalized experience for each user. HighWire developed a modern, customized homepage with content tailored to individual reader preferences. Users will now be shown an index of papers from fields that are relevant to the preferences they have selected, helping them more quickly find research that is aligned with their interests. Additionally, the login experience is being streamlined with a Single Sign-On (SSO) option.

HighWire has also integrated an interactive brain scan DICOM reader, helping users engage with the source data directly in their web browser and increasing their understanding of the research. DICOM is the international standard for displaying interoperable medical imaging, thus providing readers with the same ability to view brain scans that a neurosurgeon would have.

The site now also supports video articles with transcripts using a new integration with Cadmore Media. Additional upgrades include customizable widgets for extra content, graphical abstracts, and case report management.
“We planned to transition AJNR to an online-only model by 2025, and the HighWire team was instrumental in making this happen,” commented Karen Halm, Managing Editor at AJNR.
Tony Alves, SVP of Product Management at HighWire Press, commented, “Creating a personalized platform for AJNR was an exciting project! We were able to brainstorm ideas and collaborate to create something interesting. We are eager to see how end users react to the updates so we can continue updating the site in line with their needs.”
